In order to prevent accidental poisonings, the packaging of prescriptions and over-the-counter medications is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) of 1970, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) as well as international regulations.
